Coming home from the Gym and pulled up at a set of traffic lights to turn left and noticed the LH indicator flashing faster than normal which indicated that there was one bulb/light not working on the LHS.

Got home and sure enough the LH Front was not working so I automatically thought it was a bulb so not having a spare one I swapped one from the RHS and sure enough it was not the bulb. So I thought that's a bit strange, anyway the Red & Green wire that feeds the LHF indicator was dead and to prove where the problem is I swapped the indicator light wiring from the Left Front light and hooking it to the Right Front activation wiring and Bingo it worked. So now having proved that the problem was in the wiring somewhere its that m$ question where the F # * K is it?

Remove the Dash and no problem under there. Removed the Fuel tank to get access to the main harness, ( cant see anything obvious) Stripped the Indicator Switch and thought it can be that as the back one is still working, I could see the red & green wire coming out of the switch so I probed that with a test light and it was ok. so that leaves the problem in one place the main harness The only way to find the problem is to start and the end and work your way back into the main harness hoping to find the problem, So strip the headlight and feed the harness out the back behind the front forks where you can get at it.

Started stripping the outer protective fabric cover and then the insulation tape and about 6 or 8" into it, out jump 2 Green and red wire ends. "You Fn bueaty" I found it. So strip the both ends back and join it together, and solder it for extra good luck and cover it in some Heat Shrink and do the test and it yep she works. problem solved.

It was then a matter of reinsulating the exposed harness with some Leckys tape and putting the whole shit fight back together again.

The break was right where the wiring harness comes out the back of the headlight (where it goes into the Cloth Braded covering ) and where the harness bends around the steering neck.

So it you encounter the same or similar problem this is where it most probably will be.

Thanks GerPa ???? I have a LT and to get this fixed by a service agent would cost lots. My intermittent indicator was on the right side and looking at the service manually that was the green and white. So following the same process I stared at the headlight and worked back to no avail. After a lot of testing I followed the wire back from the indicator switch through a stack electrical relays etc And found the problem some where hidden in that fork bearing part of the wiring harness.

Tank off, head light and covers off and into it, plugging the Speedo panel back in to allow the electronics to work . To find exactly where the wire was stretched was a nightmare (turning the handlebars back and forth) so to cut a long story short I cut open the main harness about a few inches back from the radiator cap and found 2 green and whites.

Taking the risk of which one to cut was always dangerous and Murphy law stepped in so we had to join that wire. With the correct g/w wire found I cut the wire there at the r/ cap area and 4 inches from steering fork area. Then just pulled the stretched wire out, about 14 inches long. Covered the new 14 1/2 inch wire with a shrink wrap length and feed it back along the path , Soldered r/cap end shrunk the wrap, placed further wrap on the soldered the fork bearing end.

Test and what do you know! The opened middle harness was recovered and the opened fabric harness cover wiring recovered with heavy fabric tape and a softer covering protective tape. So back to putting the parts back on, the worst being trying to put the headlight bolts back on and lined up.

Hope this May also helps
Jackco
